APPLICATIONS

The purpose of the Civil Rights award is to recognize and reward students who act to defend and protect rights guaranteed by the New Hampshire and United States Constitutions and the Bill of Rights.

Seniors attending Academy of Science and Design, Bishop Brady, Concord Christian Academy, Concord High School, John Stark High School, Gilford High School, Manchester West High, Merrimack Valley High, St. Paul’s School, Spaulding High School, and Trinity High School who have made an effort to champion the legal rights of individuals or groups, we want to hear from you. If you know a senior involved in such an activity, please encourage her or him to apply.

After graduating from Concord High School, Williams College and Columbia Law School, Stanton E. Tefft practiced law for 52 years in both New York and New Hampshire. He devoted substantial time and resources attempting to slow the erosion of those civil rights and working for equal protection for all.

Jazz Music is truly an American art form. If an applicant plays one or more instruments as is customary in jazz, composes or plays in bands, we want to recognize those who are involved in a jazz sharing their skills and music with others.

Seniors attending Academy of Science and Design, Bishop Brady, Concord Christian Academy, Concord High School, John Stark High School, Gilford High School, Manchester West High, Merrimack Valley High, St. Paul’s School, Spaulding High School, and Trinity High School who demonstrate a skill playing instruments such as drums, keyboard or guitar and are involved in jazz music theory or composition and active in preserving or promoting this musical heritage, we want to hear from you. If you know a senior involved in such an activity, please encourage her or him to apply.

A 1943 graduate of Concord High School, Stanton E. Tefft was a skilled musician who earned part of his post secondary education playing in jazz groups. He was a member of the musicians union for years and played drums, piano and guitar, he was known to play Scott Joplin on a harpsichord. The Tefft Foundation is committed to encourage others to pursue this field of interest.

Track and Field encourages applicants to not only do well for themselves but to help others achieve. One winner accomplished that by organizing virtual training and virtual relay races, another, who broke his leg, couldn’t compete, so he led the exercise program for the rest of his team, while he was on crutches.

Our goal is to identify seniors attending Academy of Science and Design, Bishop Brady, Concord Christian Academy, Concord High School, John Stark High School, Gilford High School, Manchester West High, Merrimack Valley High, St. Paul’s School, Spaulding High School, and Trinity High School who demonstrate a strong commitment and overall effort to the running events in their school. The prize not only recognizes success, but also those individuals who treat other competitors with respect, helping them to improve while making a contribution to the sport.

If you are a senior at one of the listed high schools, involved in track and field activities, we want to hear from you. If you know a senior involved in such an activity, please encourage her or him to apply.

A 1943 graduate of Concord High School, Stanton E. Tefft took part in many sports. The running events in track and field were an area that he particularly enjoyed and in which he excelled. The Tefft Foundation is committed to encouraging others to pursue that field of interest.

Preservation of American Heritage Award

There is no specific application for this award. The first winner built an iron forge out of an old hibachi and his red wagon, sought help developing his skill in iron working and as a senior was juried into the NH League of Craftsmen. Occasionally an organization will send in a grant request such as the Chapin Library and the Preservation Hall Foundation.

Applications emailed, delivered or postmarked on or before May 1, will be eligible for a cash award of $1,000.00 which will be presented to the winner(s) in June.
